Training Academy

The Division of Aging and Community Services Training Academy is responsible for developing and delivering training programs for professionals working for the Division of Aging and Community Services, the County Offices on Aging, and other providers of senior services operating in the State of New Jersey.

The Academy:

  • Developed and conducts a four-day Basic Information and Assistance Training for those persons who are the first point of contact of those seeking information and help in the aging network. Most of the trainees are from the County Offices on Aging and those agencies with whom the offices on aging have contracts to do information and assistance services. The academy has trained over 720 people throughout the State.
  • Developed, conducts and coordinates an eight-day Core Care Management Training for outreach workers and care managers of seniors in the community who are assessed to be in need of services. The academy has trained over 500 care managers, mostly nurses and social workers, throughout the State.
  • In the Spring, offers 13 one-day continuing education workshops on topics chosen from surveys sent to Offices on Aging, care coordinators, care managers and information and referral personnel. More than 200 people attended these workshops.
  • Offers Social Work Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to those in the aging network who participate in our trainings and workshops.
  • Has extend invitations to training opportunities to staff working in the following offices and programs: the Office of the Public Guardian for Elderly Adults, Office of the Ombudsman for the Institutionalized Elderly, Congregate Housing Services Program, Community Choice, Long Term Care Field Office, Adult Day Health Services, Adult Protective Services, and those working with adults with disabilities.
  • Is responsible for developing the training modules for the Aging and Disability Resource Center grant initiative the Division of Aging and Community Services is currently piloting in Atlantic and Warren Counties.
